The Government of Uttar Pradesh has envisioned a 91 km long expressway to facilitate fast connectivity and transportation of agricultural and industrial goods in the region. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway would benefit nearly 50 million people living in Gorakhpur and the nearby area.

The ambitious Gorakhpur Link Expressway would be constructed on an estimated amount of rupees 5,800 crores. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway would span through four districts of Uttar Pradesh. The names of the districts are Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh. 

The construction of Gorakhpur Link Expressway is done under the guidance of nodal agency Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority(UPEIDA). The construction of the  Gorakhpur Link Expressway would be one under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction(EPC) model. 

The  Gorakhpur Link Expressway project has been divided into two packages. The Government of Uttar Pradesh has selected  Apco Infratech and Dilip Buildcon Limited to execute the construction of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

The Gorakhpur Link Expressway would be a fully access-controlled greenfield expressway. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway would be a four-lane expressway, which would be expandable up to six lanes in the future. The  Gorakhpur Link Expressway would have the Right of Way (RoW) of 110 meters.  The expressway would also have service roads on both sides to facilitate smooth transportation for nearby villagers. 

The Gorakhpur Link Expressway would have a total of three ramp plazas, Fifty underpasses, Sixteen small bridges, and seven large bridges. 

The Gorakhpur Link Expressway would begin at Jaitpur bypass in Gorakhpur and would connect with Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh. The Government of Uttar Pradesh is also planning to link the  Gorakhpur Link Expressway with Varanasi through a separate link road. 

Upon completion, the Gorakhpur Link Expressway would become the fifth greenfield expressway in the state of Uttar Pradesh after Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, and Bundelkhand Expressway.
